4 BLACK SUITS

(4 MAVRA KOSTOUMIA)

2010, Renos Haralambidis, Greece, 85 min.

With Renos Haralambidis, Yannis Zouganelis

A flat-broke undertaker gets suckered into a job that promises big money fast, and recruits three equally luckless cohorts for the oddest of funeral odysseys. Their mission: to transport the casket bearing the deceased from Athens to his remote hometown…on foot. With deadpan panache, writer/director Haralambidis does a more than credible turn as the film’s star. This crowd-pleasing comedy, winner of the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival, has the added benefit of featuring marvelous views of the Greek urban and country landscape in almost every shot. In Greek with English subtitles. 35mm print courtesy of the Greek Film Center. (BS)
