This event will be honoring Cyprus' successful presidency of the European Union and our Cypriot friends in Chicago by screening the documentary DREAMS IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE by Lucia Rikaki who passed away on December 28th, 2011. Lucia was a passionate visual storyteller and a good friend of FilmHellenes. She lost her battle to cancer, a "pink little cloud in my brain" as she used to call it. http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_articles_wsite4_1_28/12/2011_420209
Lucia was a force for the good: a sensitive human being with a tolerant character, always embracing children and the needy. She was, literally, restless, a great example of time management (producing a vast filmography ranging from mainstream narrative 35mm features to 'hand-made' humane cultural documentaries on high definition video). Among other things, Lucia was the founder of the Ecofilms film festival on the island of Rhodes and the Health Film Festival on the island of Kos.
Lucia was admired - and will be remembered - for a number of qualities; among them, her creativity, her activism in humane issues, her perpetual motion and dedication to her art, and her strength. For the children, she was 'the lady who brings out the Camera': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF3tb16mZU8
Please, share with friends and honor this event. Let's make the Patio Theater standing room only!
